Volunteer Firefighters: Heroes in Action

This National Volunteer Week, J.D. Irving, Limited is recognizing the many contributions its employees make to their communities.

Volunteer firefighters play an essential role in New Brunswick’s smaller communities. With volunteer firefighters responding to an ever-increasing variety of situations, we would like to thank our employees who spend their time as volunteer firefighters.

“Being a volunteer firefighter brings me a great sense of pride knowing that I am helping protect my neighbours and local community,” says Danny Hoyt, a Warehouse Administrator with Irving Forest Services and Captain for the Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire and Rescue department.

The Pulp & Paper Division is proud to employ eleven volunteer firefighters from four volunteer fire departments across Southern New Brunswick.

“The role has changed significantly since I started as a volunteer firefighter over twenty years ago. These days, we handle a lot more calls than just fires,” says Hoyt. “But I have no plan to stop any time soon.”
