The Shannon Story
Twin brothers Mark and Scott Shannon are connected by more than just looks and a brotherly bond. Both have decades of experience working for J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) companies. And now their journey of growth, pride and shared experiences continues with their sons Ben and Justin who are also part of the team.
With nearly 40 years of combined experience, the Shannon family is a true example of how family connections are more than just personal, they’re part of the workplace culture at JDI.
Mark began his career at KENT Building Supplies 21 years ago, starting as a paint associate and working his way up to Store Manager with roles in Summerside, P.E.I. and Rothesay, Saint John and now Moncton in New Brunswick.
Scott joined JDI 19 years ago, beginning with deliveries at KENT before moving into outside sales and eventually transitioning to Irving Wallboard, where he now works as a supervisor. Both brothers were drawn to JDI by the opportunity to grow their careers within a company that values development and long-term success.
Although they work in different divisions today, Mark and Scott continue to connect through their shared experiences at JDI.
“It was exciting working with my brother. Being twins, we often confused customers and coworkers when we worked together, which led to plenty of laughs and good conversations,” said Mark.
The family connection grew stronger when their sons joined the JDI team. For both brothers, the most rewarding part of working with family is seeing their children succeed.
Like his dad, Mark’s son Ben works at KENT, a job he’s holding while attending school.
“KENT Building Supplies has been a great place to work. I’ve met some great people, and all my managers have been very accommodating around my school schedule,” Ben said.
“It has been rewarding to see Ben grow into his roles and how he handles adversity,” Mark added.
Justin, Scott’s son, works at Irving Wallboard.
Justin’s favourite part? “The people I work with, being accepted and part of a great team,” he said.
For Scott, seeing Justin grow into a skilled operator has filled him with pride.
“Working with Justin has brought us closer than we ever were,” he said. “It’s been rewarding watching his growth in the company.”
At JDI, the Shannons have found a company that encourages career growth while also supporting the connections that matter most. Their advice to anyone considering a career at JDI is simple.
“A positive attitude and hard work go a long way,” Scott said.
“Work hard, be reliable, and have a good attitude,” Mark added. “The more you give, the more you get.”
