Supporting those who served: J.D. Irving, Limited expands veteran hiring efforts in the U.S.

Irving Forest Products is augmenting its military veterans recruitment efforts across Maine and beyond through a new hiring campaign.

Over a five-month period, company Human Resources representatives will be heading to community halls and university campuses across Maine to participate in seven veteran-focused hiring events. The events, some of which are part of Maine’s Hire-A-Vet initiative, offer opportunities to connect directly with veterans and showcase the career paths available across Irving Forest Products operations. 

"We're not just hiring. We're building futures," said Billi Mitchell, a member of the HR team and a 20-plus year army veteran who is leading the charge. "Veterans bring leadership, discipline and a commitment to excellence. Those are the same values that drive our teams every day." 

Billi's experience and passion for supporting fellow veterans have been instrumental in shaping this initiative and building meaningful connections with service members transitioning to civilian careers.

Following a pilot effort in mid-June at the 20th annual Veterans Stand Down event in Worcester, Mass., it was clear that there is a strong interest from veterans and an even stronger alignment between the skills they bring and the opportunities JDI offers. 

Jeffrey Nadeau is one such veteran. A former member of the Maine Army National Guard, Jeffrey found a rewarding career and advancement with Irving Forest Products.

"Irving is a great place to enter into a civilian career with plenty to learn and room for growth,” he said. “I was promoted from Loader Operator to Mentor Loader Operator and training new hires within the first two years."
