Students shine bright at New Brunswick High School Programming Competition sponsored by JDI IT

JDI IT was pleased to sponsor the 17th Annual New Brunswick High School Programming Competition hosted by the University of New Brunswick in Saint John.

The sponsorship is something JDI IT, as main sponsor, looks forward to every year as the event showcases and supports the bright minds that make up the future of computer science. The competition provides an opportunity for New Brunswick high schoolers to show off their coding chops while expanding their horizons about the diverse opportunities available in an Information Technology career.

At the competition, teams of two competed by racing to solve a set of computer programming problems. They were ranked based on their speed and the number of problems solved. This year the coding problems represented a broad range of applications, including tree planting.

Zijie Tang and Pengyi Ding, both grade 12 students from Kennebecasis Valley High School in Quispamsis, N.B., took first place. They were awarded a prize donated by JDI IT of new laptops and a $1,000 bursary towards first year tuition in UNB’s Bachelor of Computer Science degree program.

“It was great to see the enthusiasm and skill on display by the students,” said Mary MacPhail, Senior IT Director. "The competitors demonstrated teamwork and a competitive spirit. The event itself was a true show of the opportunities available in the tech field. The future of computer science is indeed bright."
