JDI employees to rep province at curling nationals

Two employees of J.D. Irving, Limited companies are headed to the Canadian Curling Club Championships this fall.

Team skip Carol Webb, Management System Specialist at Irving Equipment, and Heather Munn, Process Engineer at Irving Pulp & Paper, along with their two teammates, clinched first place in the women’s division at the New Brunswick provincial tournament in March.

The win was particularly special for Munn, whose husband Nick Munn was on the winning men’s team and daughter Kylie Munn won the U15 provincial title with her junior mixed team.

All are from the Thistle St. Andrews curling club in Saint John, NB.

“We have three provincial winners in the house in the same year. That’s kind of rare,” Munn said.

Munn has been curling since she was 10 years old. This was her second provincial championship win, after first taking the title in 2017. Club curling is the amateur level, she noted.

For Webb, a seasoned curler of 31 years who’s competed in eight national curling championships and two world championships, this was her first win in the skip position and a chance to accomplish a new goal.

“I am most looking forward to bringing my son along to nationals,” Webb said. “He will be able to experience a national event and watch his mom represent New Brunswick.”

Webb, Munn and their teammates will head to Barrie, ON in November to face off against provincial champs from across the country.

Practice will begin in earnest once the ice opens again in the fall.
