J.D. Irving, Limited unveils new co-op student supports

In a move to attract top talent to post-secondary co-op programs, J.D. Irving, Limited will cover the base academic fees of the co-op students it employs. The company made the announcement today.

"We welcome large numbers of students to our operations every year. These students have an incredible opportunity to do challenging work, accelerate their development and put into practice concepts they have learned in the classroom,” said Linda Speedy, Vice President of Human Resources in Saint John. “Reimbursing co-op student fees as part of our student program shows the importance we place on co-op programs and reflects our desire to continue to invest in the leaders of tomorrow."

J.D. Irving, Limited recently identified fees as a barrier for a number of students who may have interest in pursuing a co-op experience. The company hires an average of 1100 post-secondary students every year, and often offers full-time employment before graduation.

J.D. Irving, Limited’s Construction and Equipment Division Student Ambassador, Pius Ottavio Botti says the initiative will be popular with students. "Co-op provides access to an atmosphere where class theory can be applied. Receiving this sponsorship from J.D Irving goes a long way to alleviate any financial concerns and encourage continued program participation.” Pius will be completing his third co-op work term with J.D. Irving Limited as a Third Year Mechanical Engineering Student in May 2024.
