Irving Woodlands welcomes tree planters for 2026 season
Irving Woodlands is pleased to welcome 120 tree planters and 30 planting staff who will plant more than 34 million seedlings across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Maine this season.
This year marks a significant increase in planting efforts, with the team set to plant more than five million additional trees compared to 2025.
Throughout the season, planters will build valuable skills in teamwork and leadership while gaining a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and the important role forestry plays in supporting a strong economy and healthy forest ecosystem.
Tree planting is challenging but rewarding work. It is physically and mentally demanding, with planters working outdoors across varied terrain and weather conditions.
“You overcome a lot tree planting.” said Casey Sappier, Project Manager for the Northern New Brunswick team. “You’re in the thick of it, day in, day out and you’re doing manual labour.”
One tree planter can plant approximately 2,000 seedlings per day. These seedlings are made up of a variety of species that are carefully selected and planted to restore the forest’s natural mosaic.
“It is important to plant trees to be a sustainable company,” said Casey.
Since 1957, the company’s tree planters have planted over 1.1 billion trees, supporting natural regeneration and helping ensure 100 per cent of harvested areas are reforested.
As they grow, these trees will improve soil quality, provide habitat for wildlife and act as a natural air purifier, removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Tree planting reflects Irving Woodlands’ commitment to growing more than we harvest and caring for the forests of tomorrow.
