Crane Operator Training Program Success

The apprenticeship program was created in partnership with Local 946 International Union of Operating Engineers, and it builds on the success of Irving Equipment's earlier crane operator training cohort in spring 2023. The apprentices underwent comprehensive training, including theoretical study, practical hands-on training, and preparation for the mobile crane operator block exam. They performed exceptionally well in the exam, with an impressive average score of 91 percent, which significantly surpassed the passing grade of 70 percent.

To become journeypersons in their trade, the apprentices must gain 5,400 hours of on-the-job experience and successfully complete multiple block exams. As of June 2024, the 2023 apprentices had already collectively worked 8,500 hours.

Looking Ahead

As the new wave of apprentices begins their training, Irving Equipment underscores the importance of practical experience and professional growth. The company, in partnership with Local 946, is dedicated to nurturing new talent in the industry.

As Irving Equipment continues its training initiatives, the future looks promising for the company and its emerging crane operators, whose skills will significantly impact essential projects.
