From student to leadership: Alex Bishop’s journey

From student to team leader, Alex Bishop is an example of where a career in J.D. Irving, Limited’s Transportation and Logistics Division can take you.

Alex’s career with the division began in 2021 as a divisional HR student with Sunbury Transport. Before graduating from the University of Toronto with his Bachelor of Commerce the following year, Alex accepted a full-time offer through the Transportation and Logistics Division's Careers in Motion program.

Since joining the program in 2022, Alex has completed rotations as a Logistician with JDI Logistics, a Continuous Improvement Analyst with the divisional business improvement team, and most recently as an Account Manager for Sunbury’s Lake Utopia fleet. Each role gave him a unique perspective on the division’s operations and helped shape his career path.

“The rotations gave me a strong feel for the similarities and differences among the divisional businesses,” Alex said. “They also exposed me to different experiences with each, helping guide my decision to pursue a more operations-based career.”

Now, Alex has stepped into a new chapter as Team Leader of the Sunbury Command Centre. In this role, he is focused on supporting the team, integrating new employees and driving efficiency to benefit both drivers and customers.

“I want to make the Sunbury Command Centre as efficient as possible,” he said.
