Finding a Place to Call Home: Kent Homes & Irving Equipment Build, Deliver & Assemble Affordable Housing in Charlottetown

On November 10, 2022, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Charlottetown, PE, to celebrate the completion of the Fitzroy Project: the modular construction of an affordable-housing apartment building. Kent Homes proudly built the four-story, 28-unit complex in partnership with 720 SolutionsIrving Equipment lifted and assembled the 36 modular boxes building-block-style via crane.

“Working on the Fitzroy Project for CMHA was an incredible opportunity for our team. We are proud to have worked on a project that will have benefits for the community," said Jeremy Maxwell, General Manager of Kent Homes.

The Fitzroy Project is part of the Federal Government of Canada’s Rapid Housing Initiative. It will house vulnerable people, including at-risk women and individuals with mental health or addiction issues. It features three types of move-in-ready apartments:

  • 360-square-foot studio apartments,
  • 660-square-foot one-bedroom apartments, and
  • Barrier-free one-bedroom apartments that meet accessibility needs.

Everyone deserves a safe, secure, and affordable place to call home.

The Modular Advantage

Kent Homes manufactured the units in its indoor, climate-controlled facility using environmentally friendly products, and building practices that minimize waste. The efficiency of the Kent Homes manufacturing plant allowed the project to be completed on time and on budget.
