Construction Complete at the Neweg Wind Farm in Penobsquis, New Brunswick
The construction of the Neweg Wind Farm, an expansion of the Wocawson Wind Farm , was completed in late September. This project further enhances New Brunswick's renewable energy infrastructure, with support from Irving Equipment and Gulf Operators. Located in Penobsquis, NB, the Neweg Wind Farm consists of six wind turbines. Once operational, these turbines will significantly contribute to sustainable energy production in the region.
Gulf Operators was responsible for the civil construction work, which included the preparation of seven kilometers of access roads and six building pads for the concrete foundations of the turbines. Their expertise in infrastructure development has laid a solid foundation for the progress of the wind farm.
With the completion of the foundation work, Irving Equipment erected the six turbines, leveraging their team's extensive experience in large-scale wind farm projects to ensure the safe and efficient installation of the towers. Irving Equipment used its 770-ton Liebherr LR 1700 crawler crane, the only crane in the region capable of handling this complex, large-scale work.
Since 2008, Irving Equipment has erected 165 wind towers in Atlantic Canada and Maine, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable practices and serving as a trusted partner for regional energy providers. The company's support for clean energy aligns with its broader focus on environmental stewardship by utilizing natural resources to create economic opportunities. By harnessing wind power, the company is helping to reduce carbon emissions and promote a greener, more resilient future for future generations.
"We are proud to be facilitating the growth of wind energy infrastructure in Atlantic Canada. Through our expertise and dedication, we are driving positive change and advancing sustainable solutions," said Alan Mansfield, General Manager of Gulf Operators and Irving Equipment.
Once operational, the Neweg Wind Farm will help reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources and contribute to the region’s long-term environmental goals. It will increase renewable energy output in Southern New Brunswick by 25 megawatts, enough to power 8,000 homes, in line with ongoing efforts to support cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions.
