A Year of Growth and Opportunity: Celebrating Our Student Community

We look back on 2024 as a year of growth, innovation, and opportunities for students at J.D. Irving, Limited’s Pulp & Paper Division students. We welcomed over 75 students and 18 recent graduates from seven post-secondary institutions to our team.

Students from a variety of disciplines joined the team, including engineering, mechanical technology and process control technology. Through a hands-on learning experience, students had the opportunity to work on large capital investments and cutting-edge technology, providing valuable experience that goes beyond the classroom.

In addition to their day-to-day work, students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of enriching experiences. They toured state-of-the-art mills, gaining insights into the manufacturing process and networking events with senior leaders provided valuable career advice and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, students participated in continuous improvement training, empowering them to identify and implement innovative solutions.

"My work terms with the Pulp & Paper Division have taught me so many on-the-job skills that directly relate to what we’re taught in school," says Jacob Dallon, Industrial Controls Technician student with Irving Paper. "With the amount of instrumentation and electrical systems that play vital roles in the operation, there’s always something new to learn by troubleshooting or performing routine basic cares. Working for the Pulp & Paper Division has been an amazing opportunity that will help me excel in my field!"
