Our Top Social Media Stories in 2017 By Reach and Engagement
In the first half of 2017 we’ve had announcements of innovative Canada-first technology, christened a new ship, and invested $4.5 million in the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE). For social media day, we’re sharing the stories that show our heart, our values of sustainability, our recognition of women in leadership and our commitment to offering students exceptional work experiences.
Heart of the Community
Known as VerglasPA2017, the ice storm that hit the Acadian Peninsula cut of power to entire communities. Members of our Woodlands, KENT and transportation teams delivered free firewood to affected communities.
Economic, community and environmental sustainability are pillars of our business. This message resonate with our social community on Earth Day when Ian Simpson, Director of the Railway shared the environmental improvements his group.
In The Fast Lane
If you don’t know the name Danielle Dorris yet, you soon will. Danielle is a rising star in Paralympic swimming and she was the youngest swimmer ever to compete at the Paralympics. When she qualified for Rio at the last minute, JDI stepped up to sponsor her. We shared her inspiring story on International Women’s Day.
Exceptional Students, Incredible Co-ops
In 2017 we forecast welcoming 650 students. From opportunities in accounting and finance to engineering, social media and public relations, we like to give our exceptional students incredible co-op experiences. See the profiles we shared as part of National Co-op Week.
In celebration of National Co-op Week JDI would like to showcase just a few of our phenomenal co-ops, and let them share some the experiences they have had so far this term! http://bit.ly/2mQEUo0
When we posted about an upcoming career fair at UNB, we had no idea it would be one of our top posts of the year. Stephanie is one of over 600 UNB alumni growing her career at JDI. 33% of those UNB alumni at JDI are in leadership positions. Stay connected to student events, jobs and profiles on students.jdirving.com.
As part of Canada 150 celebrations, a Red Bull Crashed Ice race was hosted in Ottawa. JDI was proud to donate the lumber to build the track because of the second life it would have; the wood was repurposed for a home for Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to Patrick Haag, Ottawa Celebrations Bureau for the great action shots!
Honouring Our Past
In partnership with the Gregg Centre at UNB, KENT donated 500 flags in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Battel of Vimy. The flags are now proudly flying outside of every home and business in the France town of Givenchy-en-Gohelle at the foot of the Vimy monument.
Outstanding Aboriginal Student
Only a week after it was posted, one of the JDI UNB Scholarship Winners climbed the charts to be among our top ten social stories of the year so far. Bravo to winners Desiree and Caroline Who each won our $32,000 scholarship!
A Woman on The Rise
We featured the stories of 10 incredible women on International Women’s Day, including the story of Jane McTague. Jane studied at StFX and joined the JDI team as a result of impressing the judges at a JDI Direct Exchange Case Competition.
A Culture of Volunteerism
Our people not only make impressive contributions to our company, but also our communities. On National Volunteer Day, we featured some of the volunteers within our team. Michael Hogan gives back in the form of encouraging a spirit of entrepreneurship in youth with the Junior Achievement Program.
