August 3. 2016:
Every day, students at J.D. Irving, Limited are afforded the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of real-world, important business operations.
Three groups - a total of 72 of our co-op and summer student employees - were able to be toured around two JDI company facilities last week. The students saw, and began to understand the diversity of JDI operations and the many opportunities for young graduates.
The tour started at RST/Sunbury on McAllister Drive for the first half of the morning. Following a challenging operational game at the trucking company the students headed for the paper mill. The students sure felt the heat on the Irving Paper facility tour, ending in the main office with pizza and a mind-stimulating team exercise before returning to JDI head office at 300 Union Street.
The 2016 summer students have started up a social group to meet and spend time with other young professional peers for the summer of 2016! The first event was held at the Irving Nature Park where they all met for some burgers and hot dogs and listened to music.

Zoe Britt is a co-op student, Business Analyst with New Brunswick Southern Maine Railways. She attended the Student Facility Tour and the BBQ at the Irving Nature Park. She is currently going into her final year of her Bachelor of Business Administration, with a double major in Human Resources and Marketing at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John Campus.
“I am currently in the Careers in Motion Summer Program where I have the role as a Business Analyst for NBMR. Working at the NBMR, I have had the privilege to work with many different individuals, who have very different but important roles in the company and all have been very kind in helping me learn and making me feel a part of the company since day one."
"With the JDI Careers in Motion Summer Program, I have had numerous opportunities that I wouldn’t get with other companies as a summer student - like having lunch with the Vice President of the Transportation & Logistics Wayne Power. JDI professionals have set up workshops, courses, tours of different businesses within JDI, Student BBQs and other networking events. Meeting other students helped me in building my professional relationships as well as making friends outside of work!”
Zoe hopes to return to the JDI group of companies in May after she graduates.
The next summer student event will be held in Saint John this month. Encourage any students to check out JDI's future career opportunities. Every year JDI welcomes over 700 students to its diverse operations. Between 2016 and 2018, the company is forecasting hiring 7900 new team members.
