Gilles Godbout, a truck driver and owner-operator with Midland, is celebrating a very special achievement – 5 million miles accident free! He joins an exclusive club, as he is only the third person to receive this distinction. Gilles was recently honoured at the Million Mile Banquet, which recognizes Midland driving professionals who have reached milestones of accident-free driving.

 

6th Annual Fisherman's Pow wow Honors First Responders

Hosted on Waterford Green in Miramichi, Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Roger Augustine brought together First Nations and non-First Nations fishermen in a spirit of peace and friendship. This year marked the 6th annual Pow wow. J.D. Irving, Limited was proud to be a sponsor.

 

Nearly 400 Local Contractors Work on $4.75 Million Investment at Lake Utopia Paper

Lake Utopia Paper, Limited (LUP) recently completed their annual seven-day shut down for scheduled maintenance and the installation of new equipment to improve efficiency and increase production. Nearly 400 local contractors were on site from 37 different companies. They worked together with the team of nearly 140 staff and hourly LUP employees to get the job done.

 

Kent Homes helps NB High School Teachers build a Tiny Home for Oromocto First Nation

Kent Homes and Kent Building Supplies are proud to support New Brunswick High School Teachers in a Professional Learning Opportunity. This month, Kent Homes worked with New Brunswick High School Teachers in a hands-on project to identify the skills to teach Grade 9-12 students how to build their own Tiny Home. Kent Building Supplies also supported the build of the Tiny Home by donating the building materials.

This past May, high school teams from across New Brunswick competed in the Envirothon NB competition held in Fredericton, NB. For the third year in a row the Stanley High School Buffleheads were the overall champions. The Buffleheads will be heading to Emmitsburg, Maryland, July 23-29th to compete at the international level of the competition.

Get to Know Our Summer Students - Tree Planting Auditor

Sandra Mae Watling is a second year Forestry student at the University of New Brunswick's Fredericton campus. This summer she is one of the 110 students working in J.D. Irving, Limited’s (JDI) tree planting operations. Sandra Mae is a tree planting auditor, following behind the planting crew to ensure that all trees are planted to a quality standard. The nine auditors across the company are looking for quality indicators as they check their plots. Indicators include ensuring that seedlings are spaced appropriately, planted at the correct depth and that seedlings aren’t damaged or leaning.
