Transportation Make It Home: Dmytro

Now a Professional Truck Driver with Sunbury Transport, Dmytro began his career as a second-generation truck driver in his home country of Ukraine. Looking to start fresh somewhere new, Dmytro and his family left Ukraine for Poland, where he continued to work as a truck driver. While the change did bring a more stable life for the family, they were still left looking for more.

Five years later, Dmytro, his wife and daughter entered a new chapter in their lives by moving to Canada. Dmytro was offered a role with Sunbury Transport, where he now works hauling forest products in New Brunswick.

"Arriving in Canada was like stepping into a new world,” Dmytro said. “The vast landscapes, the friendly people and the sense of freedom were overwhelming. I quickly adapted to my new job and the Canadian roads soon became familiar.”

He added that he and his wife have since found a sense of community among other immigrants in the region.

The journey to Canada was not an easy one, but Dmytro credits the resilience and strength of his family for pulling them through.

“Seeing my daughter happy made every sacrifice worthwhile,” Dmytro said, adding, “We have found a place where we belong, and for the first time in a long time, I feel at home."

At Sunbury, Dmytro has now become an invaluable part of the team, where his skill and determination, exemplified by his dedication throughout his journey to Canada, are on show.
